THE UNITE MISSISSIPPI VIDEO AND ESSAY CONTEST IS ON!

We are excited to announce that the Unity Matters Video & Essay Contest opens February 19, 2019 and deadline for essays and video submissions ends  at 11:59 p.m. on April 1st, 2019.

Winners will be announced on April 27th, 2019 at the Night of Unity event at Jackson Memorial Stadium.

All contestants must be present to win.

High Schools & College/University students we want you to tell us What a “United Mississippi” looks like to you?

The stories told in these videos and essays should inspire us, move us, and remind us of why “A UNITED MISSISSIPPI” is important to the people of our state.

WHO’S ELIGIBLE?

  • High School & College & University Students

  • 9th through 12th grade students and college/university students are eligible to enter.  

  • All applicants under age 18 must have their parent or legal guardian review our consent form regarding privacy and then check box agreeing to rules of contest.


You can view the consent form at the bottom of the page. This form must be signed and uploaded with the remainder of your application at the time of submission.


HOW TO ENTER


HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - ESSAY

  • We’re asking students to write a 300-350 word essay answering, what a “United Mississippi” looks like to you?

  • Contestant entries will be judged on creative writing and theme representation of Unity in Mississippi.

  • Accepted file types: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT

  • Essay must included: My name is ____, I’m ___ years old from City, State, and my Unity Matters essay is _____.’

  • Upload your essay to unitemississippi.com/submit

COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY STUDENTS - VIDEO

  • We’re asking students to create a one minute video answering, What a “United Mississippi” looks like to you?

  • Contestant entries will be judged on creative writing and theme representation of Unity in Mississippi.

  • Tag @unitemississippi on facebook or instagram

  • Use #unitemississippi, shares and likes will be considered.

  • Upload the video to unitemississippi.com/submit


JUDGING CRITERIA FOR BOTH VIDEOS AND ESSAYS

  • 40% Creativity

  • 40% Quality

  • 20% Social media shares

  • The Unite Mississippi staff will select 4 essay finalists and 4 video finalists.  

  • These finalist will be announced at the Night of Unity in Jackson MS on April 27th, 2019.

  • All winners must be present to win.  

PRIZES

Grand prize winners - one for the essay category and one for the video category - will be selected. Prizes will be awarded to the top 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th entrants in the essay category and the top 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th entrants in the video category.

  • High School -$1000 cash and various electronics.

  • College/University student winners will receive up to $1000 cash and various electronics in each category.
